The Rebirth of a Great Idea

Rising from the ashes like a CR Phoenix, the Council Rock Education Foundation was recreated and revitalized in January of 2007.  Prior to that date, a small group of zealots met to consider the many options that are available to Foundations today.  We met with other Foundations, explored some of the new funding mechanisms now presented by the state and looked at the potential for putting this organization back in place in Council Rock. On Tuesday, February 6, 2007, we officially kicked off this organization with a dinner at Chancellor Center attended by 35 potential directors and supporters.

WHY A FOUNDATION?

It is increasingly apparent that funding for public education is limited by the constraints of Act 1 and by the machinations of the state legislature.  While we continue to look for efficiencies within our budget, it is also important that we examine outside funding streams and community initiatives that will help us fund programs that are on the fringe of general fund expenditures.  An independent foundation has the opportunity to step in and create an alternative funding stream for innovative and interesting programs that support student learning.

WHAT IS THE COUNCIL ROCK EDUCATION FOUNDATION?

The Council Rock Education Foundation is an independent organization formed as a 501 ( c) (3) charitable organization.  Its mission is to “…promote programs that will lead to the overall enrichment and excellence of the quality of education and an enhancement of community support for our school district.”   The Council Rock Education Foundation reflects our community’s commitment to our children.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

You can support the Foundation on multiple fronts.  The first is simply volunteering your time. Volunteers are welcome for even the smallest tasks and contributions.  You can also support the Foundation by considering projects and programs that may be eligible for a Foundation grant.  Additionally, your financial support will ensure that the Foundation is able to fund these worthwhile projects and programs. Each year, the Foundation will stand ready to distribute funds to classrooms to support innovation and good practice.
