Title I is a government funded program which provides supplemental reading assistance to children in first and second grades and kindergarten. Children remain in Title I for the entire school year and are invited to attend a free academic camp in the summer.
At Hillcrest, children are recommended for Title I by their classroom teacher and Hillcrest's Reading Recovery Teacher Leader.
The Hillcrest Title I Program is currently serving a total of 23 students with two staff members. Each student meets with their assigned Title I staff person for three 30 minute sessions per week. Some of the sessions are individual and some are group lessons. The lessons teach students to use strategies they need to become fluent and independent readers.
