Newtown Middle School

Dear parents,

The year has gotten off to a great start.  Before we know it, we will be sending out our first marking period report cards.  At this time, however, we are asking for your help and support with the dress code policy.  Please help us to ensure that our kids are dressed appropriately when they come to school.  We discourage tank-tops, low riding pants, short-shorts, etc.  I have copied the language from our handbook below for your convenience.  If you should have any questions or concerns please contact the school.  We appreciate your help and support with this matter.

STUDENT ATTIRE

n  We at Council Rock are proud of our students - their conduct, maturity, and attire.  Students are urged to emphasize cleanliness, neatness, and generally acceptable good taste in their dress and grooming habits.  In an effort to maintain an appropriate academic atmosphere, student attire is expected to be appropriate and in good taste for the school environment.

n  Hats, headbands, bandannas, sunglasses etc. are not to be worn in school.  Certain types of clothing and accessories are deemed inappropriate (i.e., tank tops, muscle shirts, midriff tops, underwear or pajamas worn as outerwear). Outside coats are not permitted to be worn in classrooms.  Clothing advertising drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products or clothing that conveys sexual or inappropriate messages is not permitted.  In addition, excessively short, tight, or low-cut clothing is unacceptable.  The administration reserves the right to have students change, remove or cover inappropriate attire.  Repeated violations will result in disciplinary action.
