Recently, Council Rock South sent two 4 person teams to the Temple University Mathematics competition. The contest was for 11th grade high school students. Over 100 teams competed from across the East Coast. The two teams from Council Rock South earned a 1st place and 2nd place in the final standings. The second place team consisted of Milah Shah, Cailyn Hall, Josh Piorko and John Broderick. The first place overall winning team consisted of Josh Blaustein, Phyllis Parkansky, Mike Lu and Arthur Azvolinsky. Their first place award came with a cash prize. Thanks to Mrs. Jill Kotlyer and Mr. Joe Messina, math teachers at CR South, for their work in planning and coaching these teams.
Council Rock was well represented at the recent Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Sciences (PJAS). In order to participate, the students had to get a 1st Award at the regional competition held in February. First-time participant Amanda Plichta received a perfect score! Please help us congratulate our outstanding students and teachers, without whom this achievement would not have been possible. We are fortunate to have teachers working with these students outside the classroom and providing the opportunity for them to compete in this prestigious competition. Winners from Council Rock South include:
|Miriam van der Spek||2nd||Microbiology|
Special award winners: Amanda Plichta, a PJAS 2015 Oerlien Jr. High Award for PJAS Excellence, with a $50 cash award, and, Michael Lu - $8,000 Scholarship for either College of Engineering or Eberly College of Science.
